Marcus Vane leads the commercial contracts practice. He is instructed by general counsel and commercial directors who need agreements that will be performed for years, not merely closed before a board date. His drafting is known for its structural clarity: risk is allocated where it can be managed, and the exit path is written before the relationship begins.

Marcus spent seven years as seconded counsel inside a FTSE-listed manufacturing group before returning to private practice, which still shows in how he reads operational schedules. He is particularly strong on multi-jurisdiction supply networks, change-control under volatile input costs, and the renegotiation of inherited contracts that no longer match the business model.

He trains client legal teams on negotiation mandates and runs the firm’s internal contract-review standard, against which associate work is measured before it reaches a partner’s desk.

Representative matters

Selected and anonymised where client confidentiality requires. Illustrative of the work, not a complete list.

  • Rewrote a pan-European manufacturing and logistics framework for a consumer goods group after a critical-vendor failure.
  • Negotiated a ten-year outsourcing of finance and shared services for a listed healthcare business, including step-in and exit transition.
  • Closed a multi-party distribution network across twelve territories with unified liability and local compliance schedules.
  • Produced a board-approved contract playbook now used by a FTSE 250 in-house team for all sub-threshold commercial deals.
