Materia receives 2026 OASPA Open Access Innovation Award

Materia has been awarded the 2026 OASPA Open Access Innovation Award in recognition of its diamond open-access model and pathbreaking reproducibility initiative. The award citation noted Materia's requirement that all published research deposit data and code in recognised public repositories, its no-APC policy sustained over 12 volumes, and its active programme of author workshops in low- and middle-income countries. Editor-in-Chief Prof. Elena Vasconcelos said: "This award belongs to our authors, reviewers, and editorial board, who have shown that rigorous peer review and equitable access are not in tension — they reinforce each other."

Materia impact factor rises to 5.8 in 2025 Journal Citation Reports

The 2025 Journal Citation Reports, released by Clarivate, list Materia's impact factor at 5.8, up from 5.2 the previous year. The journal now ranks in the first quartile (Q1) in three categories: Multidisciplinary Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, and Applied Physics.
